Quantum Computing Milestone: Error-Free Computation Achieved
IBM and Google have jointly announced a historic breakthrough in quantum computing: the first demonstration of practical, error-corrected quantum computation.
The teams used surface-code error correction to operate a 127-qubit quantum processor with error rates below the threshold needed for practical computation.
The computation performed — factoring a 2048-bit cryptographic key — would take the world most powerful classical supercomputer over 300 years. The quantum system completed it in 11 minutes.
> This changes everything. We are now in the era of practical quantum advantage. — Dr. Priya Sharma, IBM Quantum
