Scientists Discover New Species of Deep-Sea Bioluminescent Creatures
Marine biologists on a deep-sea expedition in the Pacific Ocean have discovered seventeen previously unknown species, including several that produce extraordinary patterns of bioluminescent light.
The research team, aboard the RV Falkor, deployed remotely operated vehicles to depths exceeding 3,000 meters off the coast of the Philippines.
Among the discoveries is a new species of anglerfish with a luminescent lure unlike anything seen before.

High-definition footage captured by the submersibles is already being described as some of the most spectacular underwater photography ever taken.
